GBA News Release: Farewell Summer 2017 Interns
Green Buzz Agency had three talented interns join their team for the summer: Madison Edwards, Catherine Bobalek and Sophia Gribbs. As their time as GBA interns comes to a close, we are grateful for their hard work, positivity and intelligent points of view that were present throughout their time in the office this summer. Gribbs and Edwards will soon be making their way back to their universities in South Carolina and Arkansas for their senior year, and Catherine, who has already graduated from college in Savannah, will be working on what she does best: film and directing.
Sophia Gribbs is a senior at the University of South Carolina where she claims has been an incredibly vibrant place to spend her college career. She is a double-major in Business Management and Marketing. Gribbs held multiple leadership positions, including President of the Study Abroad Association and Social Media Manager at the USC chapter of Spoon University. Additionally,She studied abroad her whole junior year of college, in Florence for the fall semester and France in the spring semester.
She began her intern time at Green Buzz Agency in May of 2017 and has enjoyed being part of such a reputable company.
“The internship program exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed the increasing amount of responsibility and freedom. It was an experience that taught me so much about video production, digital marketing and working with a dynamic group of individuals,” she stated.
Gribbs particularly enjoyed writing blog posts, running the social media pages, completing Google AdWords and measuring Google analytics. Some of her favorite memories are attending Hashtag Sports conference in NYC and networking and photographing the event. She liked how the office would sometimes go out to lunch as a group, and says she also liked collaborating with GBA’s other marketing intern, Madison.
Gribbs notes that Green Buzz is an energetic and enjoyable place to work. She says that the individuals that make up the GBA team are all incredibly talented, intelligent and inspiring.
“I enjoyed taking on new challenges and expanding my skills to include researching for business development. I will be able to apply these useful skills to my career path in the future, and I look forward to discovering how my experience at Green Buzz will be applicable in the future,” she said.
Catherine Bobalek graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in June 2016 with degrees in Animation and Film & Television with a minor in Dramatic Writing. During her time at SCAD, her film Crossfire was a finalist for Best Student Short Film at Canada’s Yes! Let’s Make A Film Festival. A film she directed, The Portsmouth Project, won the 2016 best NH short film at the New Hampshire Film Festival.
Bobalek’s time as a Green Buzz intern started April 17th and ended July 28th. While at GBA, she learned how to work with clients and how production for client- based work in marketing differs from film.
“What makes GBA standout from other agencies or production companies is their dedication to working with their clients to reach their vision, and then going above and beyond the client’s initial expectations. That ability and strive for quality is something that I hope to take with me as I continue my career in entertainment and production,” she said.
Post Green Buzz departure, Bobalek will continue to do pre production work as a producer on Borinquen, a documentary on the relationship between the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and how Public Relations is effected. She also hopes to soon start a career in commercial directing.
“Overall, Green Buzz is amazing because of the talented, funny and diverse individuals who make up the company. They all bring their unique skills together to form one kick butt agency of video industry knowledge and their “can-do” attitude that they can get anything done. Because of the insight I’ve gained while working at GBA, I feel I have a better understanding on what clients want and the future of what’s coming to video marketing, that will help me throughout my career,” Bobalek stated.
Edwards is a rising senior Public Relations major at Harding University, a private Liberal Arts college in Searcy, Arkansas. She is involved in two social clubs at her university: Ko Jo Kai and Titans. Through her social club, she has served three leadership positions. Edwards says she was honored to be queened for the men’s social club, Titans, the spring semester of her sophomore year. She has been highlighted on her school’s “dean’s list” for her high GPA. Edwards is also active in the organization PRO (public relations organization). She participates in Bisons for Christ, a community outreach and day of service, where the university lends a hand and gives back to the community.
Edwards had the wonderful opportunity to study abroad in the fall semester of her sophomore year, “I visited Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and India. Some of the most rewarding moments of my life are visiting the orphanages and playing with the children. I learned so much through my time abroad that I never would have learned in a classroom.”
She started her internship for Green Buzz on May 22nd and it is ending on August 4th. During her time at GBA, she says she learned a ton of valuable information she will be able to apply to future jobs. Edwards has enjoyed running the company’s social media accounts, researching and writing blog posts, and photographing and networking at the Hashtag Sports conference.
“I feel that my writing and communication skills have greatly improved since the start of my internship. It was great learning that Sophia and I improved the GBA website interaction 30% through our social media tactics we started in May,” she said.
Edwards loved working with and learning from Leah, Green Buzz’s Marketing Coordinator. She said Leah was very helpful and encouraging. She also enjoyed having Sophia as her co-intern, who she became good friends with.
Since Edwards doesn’t graduate until December 2018, she hopes to continue to build her resume with any PR, social media, marketing or photography work she can find. She also hopes to find another internship for next summer. Edwards says she is not sure what her future holds post graduation, but her goal is to get her working visa and live in Queenstown, New Zealand for a year, working and making connections.
“I have loved working with and learning from the employees of Green Buzz Agency. It has been the perfect first internship. Everyone is hilarious, and brings their own unique talents to the job, thus forming a super successful team. I am excited about the new skills and knowledge I am taking away from my time here that I know will be super valuable in my future,” she said.
Leah, who mentored Sophia, Madison and Catherine throughout the summer, spoke on her time with the interns, “Working with the interns is one of the best parts of my position. I love to help them develop their professional skills. Green Buzz Agency’s internship program is made worthwhile by the strides they make over their time here, and the quality of work they contribute to the team. Their contributions have a great impact and they will be missed!”
